The presence of Catalan DO's increases

The market share of the Catalan DO’s increased in 2013, in a state level and in the Catalan market.

The 11 Catalan Wine Designations of Origin increased a 0.3% its participation in the Spanish market, reaching a total of 6.4%, according to NIELSEN data. This increase is the biggest one in the 10 first positions in the Spanish market.

In Catalonia, the increase has been of a 0.7%, so the participation arrived to the 29.6% and the DO’s are in the second place only 3 points away from the first one. In the last three years, the Catalan DO’s have increased its participation in this market up to 1.1%.

The Agriculture minister in the regional government, Josep Maria Pelegrí, said that “these data confirm that […] these wines are progressively reaching market shares that are suitable to its tradition and quality”.
