Navarra was the most important prize-winner in the 9th National Contest of Ecological Wines of Estella. Catalonia was the second one, with six medals.
The judges of FIVE, the International Fair of Ecological Wine, gave 28 gold and silver medals to wines from the whole Spain. Catalan wines won two gold medals and four silver medals, becoming the second most prize-winner autonomous region. The winner was Navarra, with seven medals.
The gold medalist cellars from Catalonia are 1+1=3 (which also won a silver medal) and Domini de la Cartoixa. Hidalgo Albert, Celler Rendé Masdeu and L’Olivera Cooperativa were the other silver medalists.
The prizes were announced in the official opening of FIVE, which is celebrating its first virtual edition from 21st to 30th June. It’s the first ecological wines’ fair celebrated online, and this year has 56 cellars from Spain, Italy and France. In addition, it will have all kind of cellars, like auteur microcellars, a producer of orange wine and biodynamic and natural cellars.
The idea of the online fair wants to promote ecological wines by reducing costs and doing the fair more accessible to producers and customers. What’s more, the organization wants to arrive to a bigger public in this way.
