The Designation of Origin Alella
Among white varieties, Pansa Blanca (very similar to Xarel·lo) is the most typical grape variety in the area, and it shares the vineyard with the traditional white Garnacha, Pansa rosada, Picapoll and Malvasía. Nowadays we also have to include Parellada, Macabeu, Chardonnay and white Chenin.
Despite the minor production of rosé and red wines, the traditional red Garnacha and hairy Garnacha are used, as well as Ull de llebre and, nowadays, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Wines
They are mainly white wines of different types, outstanding the traditional Alella, light and aromatic, pleasant to the palate but not really sweet. Also some dry white wines are made; they are pale, fresh and full of perfume.
Regarding rosé and red wines, they are full of character, vividly coloured, aromatic and varietal. They outstand due to their balance, resulting from a wonderful maturing process.

Geographical situation
The small but renowned Designation of Origin Alella is located North of Barcelona, right in front of the Mediterranean sea. The vineyard surface is only 600 ha, mainly on sandy soils of granitic origin.

Aging
All the wines covered by this D.O. will undergo ageing for at least two years, one of which in oak container.
