The Grenache is a variety of grape mainly located in the wine growing areas in the South of Catalonia and in the Empordà. It’s a vigorous variety and it can adapt well to different areas. The bunch is medium-sized and compact; the grape is red and fleshy.
It’s high-proof and it blends well with other varieties. The productivity of this grape is high and it resists perfectly the drought and cold. It gives body, fruity flavour and fleshy part to wines.
This variety produces róse and red wines, with high alcohol content and a low acidity. The aromas remind of ripe red fruits, jam, raisins and spices. It’s also used to provide colour to wine. It’s the most grown Mediterranean variety all over the world, and it has the biggest presence in the Spanish vineyard, so it offers a wide variety of natures because it gets different personalities in the different areas.
It’s has a lot of synonyms: Cannonau in Sardinia, Garnacha negra or Garnacha roja in Castilla y León, Lledoner in Empordà, Negrell in Valencia…
